Amy L. Miller, MSW, LCSW (she/they)
I completed a master’s degree in social work at the Brown School at Washington University in St. Louis in 2005. Since then I’ve been a project manager, school social worker, private practice therapist, relationship coach, leadership consultant, keynote speaker, professional singer, mediator, and author. (My book is called “Easyish: Keys to a (Relatively) Easy Relationship”. You can buy it here.)
Most recently, I paused my full-time coaching practice to complete a two-year contract as interim director of a local Humanist congregation. I learned a ton from that experience, including clarification of my own relational and leadership styles. The most meaningful aspect was the opportunity to deeply immerse myself in the question: “What is community?”
I have concluded that community is created anytime we feel connected to other humans. I am grateful to bring that understanding into the re-visioning of this coaching practice. My intention is to prioritize the healing nature of being together in a safe and nurturing space and ensure that everyone who comes into my office feels a sense of belonging and connection. I am super into: healthy communication, conflict resolution, and relationship-building.
Other things about me: I am in my mid-40s, heavily tattooed, an INFJ, and I curse a lot. I am in a healthy, ethically non-monogamous (ENM) marriage with my best friend, & co-parent to a young (sassy, smart, spunky) daughter.
I believe:
- Black Lives Matter
- Gender + sexuality are continuums; love is love.
- Kindness + ethical behavior are more important than religious belief
- Monogamy isn’t the only or “right” way to do relationship
- Shame-free parenting is a worthwhile goal
- Phone calls should be reserved for emergencies only
In no particular order, I love:
- Reading
- Writing
- Singing
- Yoga
- Naps
- Cookies
- Teaching + learning
